Teaching Certificate

Individuals interested in working in community colleges are encouraged to complete the Community College Teaching Certificate program. We offer the traditional teaching certificate as well as a STEM based certificate.

Courses

The 12-credit hour program consists of the following courses:

• HgEd 561 College Teaching (3 cr.)
• HgEd 562 Curriculum Development (3 cr.)
• HgEd 582 Comprehensive Community College (3 cr.)
• HgEd 570H Diversity in Higher Education (3 cr.). (If you have taken a human relations course or its equivalent from an area education agency you do not need to take HgEd 570H.)

Program Objectives

As a result of completing this certificate program, students will:

• gain an understanding of the environment of community colleges and the issues they face;
• develop skills in teaching and learning;
• develop skills in working with diverse student populations; and
• gain an understanding of the academic programs offered in community colleges and how to shape curricula in these settings.
