Perkins Legislation
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 was officially signed into law on August 12, 2006. The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) recently hosted a Webcast about the new Perkins legislation and has many resources available to help with understanding the new legislation. Information is also available from AACC.
Career Voyages
The Career Voyages website provides career planning information to students and counselors. It provides useful information to help students choose and prepare for careers in a variety of high-demand, high-wage fields. Visit the website at www.careervoyages.gov.
Meeting Iowa's Workforce Challenge
Meeting Iowa's Workforce Challenge is a report from the Iowa Works Campaign. This report provides recommendations for improving Iowa's workforce. The four recommendations provided in the report are:
- Measure student success, ensure accountability
- Invest in regional strategies and industry-based public private partnerships
- Build career pathways for good jobs to all
- Provide Iowans with lifelong access to skills training and educational opportunities
