Frankie Santos Laanan is an associate professor in the department of educational leadership and policy studies. His research focuses on college access, minority students' pathway to the baccalaureate and beyond, and the impact of community colleges on individuals and society. He received his Ph.D. in higher education and organizational change from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Soko Starobin is a postdoctoral researcher in the department of educational leadership and policy studies. Her research interests include community college students, women and minorities in science and engineering, and comparative higher education. She received her doctorate in higher education from the University of North Texas. Her past work experiences include, Institutional Research Analyst of the Office of Institutional Research and Accreditation and Research Associate of the Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education at North Texas.

Jackie Baughman

Jackie Baughman is a PhD student in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education, and minor in Statistics. She is a research associate focusing on STEM and Community Colleges. Jackie received a B.S. in Metallurgical from ISU, and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. Prior to returning to ISU, she worked in different business organization serving in various management level positions/roles focusing on business process improvements, new product development, training and education design, strategy development and implementation, the organizational pursuit of ISO certification, Lead Internal ISO Auditor, as well as Six Sigma and Lean(TPS) project management and implementation. She has been an adjunct faculty instructor at 4 Metro Milwaukee colleges/universities, facilitating graduate and undergraduate courses for over 5 years.

Christopher Duree is a PhD student in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education and a research associate focusing on career and technical education. Before his arrival at Iowa State University, he spent the past nine years as the Vice President of Instruction, Chief Academic Officer and Career and Technical Education Dean at Southwestern Community College. He has served as Chairperson for both the Iowa Community College Chief Academic Officers and Career and Technical Education Deans, and as President of the Iowa Association for Career and Technical Education. He has earned an Ed. Spec. degree from Northwest Missouri State University and a Masters Degree from Drake University in Education Leadership and Administration; and a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Iowa.

April Walker graduated from Iowa State University in May, 2006 with a B.A. in English. April plans to apply for her Masters Degree in Library and Information Sciences at The University of Iowa or The University of British Columbia, Vancouver to begin in the 2007-2008 academic year.

Adam Audino is currently a sophomore majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Psychology. He joined the research team via the Freshmen Honors Mentor Program during the spring of 2005. He is a graduate of Mason City High School and plans to graduate with his Bachelor of Science in 2008.

Liz Madrigal

Liz Madrigal is currently a sophomore at Iowa State, with an interest in medicine. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and a Carver Scholar. Liz plans to graduate in 2010, while playing as many intermural sports as possible!
