- Research indicates that 90% of tomorrow's community college senior leaders will come from current mid-level community college insiders. The Community College Leadership Initiative Consortium (CLIC) provides upper level and mid-management administrators with an excellent staff development experience by training them with the skills necessary to lead community colleges in the 21st century.
Objectives
CLIC is designed to encourage growth and further development of administrative skills in current and future college Vice Presidents, Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs. Emphasis is placed on the latest advancements in areas of management and supervision, current issues in the community college system, and networking opportunities to enhance communications between educational institutions. The CLIC program meets State of Iowa certification for administrator evaluator approval. Participants have the option of receiving additional graduate credit upon course completion.
Program Format
The Community College Leadership Initiative Consortium (CLIC) meets five times during the academic year. Meeting locations rotate within the state's four quadrants to equalize travel costs, time, and distance. CLIC is scheduled into two day sessions, generally on a Thursday (10:00-8:00 p.m.) and Friday (8:00-1:00 p.m.). In the Thursday morning session, the host institution discusses their organization, administration and academic structure. In the afternoon, the focus is on current issues in personnel supervision and evaluation. In the Friday morning session, seminars are presented by the host institution staff, participants and guest speakers focusing on current issues in community colleges. Guest speakers include: John Roueche, Katherine Boswell, Bev Simone, Ann McGee, Dick Alfred, Pat Carter, Steven Lee Johnson and Cynthia Heelan. To end the CLIC session on Friday afternoon, CLIC participants have the opportunity to tour the campus and visit various departments on the host campus.
